Dental charting

Dentistry in the same record

Dental charting is part of the patient record, not a separate system: the same patient, the same team and the same languages, for inpatients and outpatient visits alike. Dentists see the dental chart first in every patient's record.

The dental chart

An odontogram with FDI numbering for permanent, deciduous and mixed dentition. Findings are recorded per tooth and surface — caries, fractures, fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, dentures, root canal treatment — and restorations show their material in colour.

A full-mouth examination, tooth by tooth

Charting mode walks the whole mouth, skips missing teeth and picks up where an interrupted examination stopped. Missing teeth are marked in one step, and teeth on watch come up again at the next examination.

Periodontal charting and recall

Probing depths, recession, bleeding, plaque, mobility and furcation, with a summary for each exam. After an examination Pulsonics suggests the next check-up and puts the patient on reception's booking list.

Treatment plans with estimates

Plans in phases, with cost estimates in your currency. The printed plan carries a consent statement and signature lines for patient and clinician; each item is then recorded as performed or skipped, with its material, the local anaesthetic and its batch number.

Photos and history

Intraoral and extraoral photos, before and after treatment, linked to the teeth. The chart can be viewed as it stood on any earlier day, with who recorded what and when.

Forensic dental search

To help identify an unknown person, enter the dental characteristics found — missing teeth, crowns, fillings and their surfaces — on a blank chart. Pulsonics ranks the patients on record by how well they match, partial matches included, with rare characteristics weighing more; earlier findings that have since been treated can be included. Only authorised staff can search, only the organisation's own records are searched, and every search is logged.
